Jozani Forest, also known as Jozani Chwaka Bay National Park, is the only national park on Zanzibar Island in Tanzania. It is very small (only 50 square kilometres) but a beautiful and tranquil place to visit. It is one of the must-see tours. It is a home of endangered red colobus monkeys and wonderful photo opportunities and sightings of these rare creatures living in the forest reserves are possible on the pathways. You will also be visiting the floating mangrove bridge and a walk through the impressive flora and fauna, with a visit to the Mangrove swamp and a walk around the Mangrove forest which is one of the highlights of Zanzibar.
Our guides are naturalists and nature lovers and make sure you will have a wonderful time in the nature reserve.
The forest is a natural pharmacy and truly an amazing source of natural remedies. Every plant or tree cures something.
The Jozani Forest is located in the centre of the Jozani-Chwaka Bay National Park, 38 km South-East of Stone Town. The forest is a great place to encounter many indigenous varieties of flora and fauna, including the Zanzibari Red Colobus Monkey.
Other species that you might catch a glimpse of include Blue Sykes’ Monkeys, Bush Pigs, Aders Duiker Antelopes, Elephant Shrews, Chameleons and numerous birds and butterflies. The best time to see the wildlife of Jozani is early in the morning.
Visitors are advised to keep three metres between themselves and any wildlife and are asked not to visit the forest if suffering any cold flu-like symptoms. The monkeys, though susceptible to human diseases, have practically no resistance to them.
