This three-hour tour begins at your hotel or entry point where you are walking and driven around the historic old city of fabled Stone Town, where history appears to stand still. It begins with a visit to Zanzibar’s colorful market which opened in 1904. Alive with the buzz of locals bartering fresh vegetables and baskets of tropical fruit, amongst the heady aroma of herbs and spices. Here you will see and be able to buy a variety of being tropical fruits and spices. This is the best place to feel the multiculturalism of Zanzibar, due to the resident’s different origins.
From here we continue onto the site of the Anglican Cathedral at Mkunazini built by Bishop Streers in 1874 exactly on the site of the former slave market. The guide will also show you the place where is believed that slaves were kept before being auctioned. The crucifix of the Church came from the tree in Chitambo under which the heart of Dr. Livingstone was buried in Tanzania. From here the next stop is the National Museums of Zanzibar commonly called Peace Memorial Museums. From here we then go to the Zanzibar Museum, With visits to the House of Wonders, the former slave market for East African Slave trade, and the Arab Fort amongst others, as well as Tippu Tip’s House, the former British Club. It is a fascinating look at the essence of Zanzibar. The architectural style of Stone town buildings is a unique mixture of various influences and cultures.
You will see Zanzibar’s bustling market, winding alleyways, ornately carved and studded doors. Stone Town has some excellent gift shops with plenty of souvenirs and handicrafts to choose from.
Your tour ends with a stroll through the narrow streets of Stone Town.
